I attended a creative writing group a the VA this afternoon. The group writes about a particular topic and in a certain style. We share the writing with the rest of the group. Today’s topic was winter and the style was poetry.
I wrote three haiku and one free form poems. The experience was interesting and positive. There’s something different about writing something by hand versus typing it in on a tablet or computer. Writing is more “real.” There’s a stronger connection to emotions and brain. I plan to write physically and then write in the blog.
There are talented veterans in that group. It was fun to hear what they shared. My poems have a theme: seeking and struggling through storms of life. The group gave support and shared common feelings and thoughts.
My poems are not “good” but they express where I am. The group isn’t about improving writing but rather a place to share, laugh, and talk.
Northern winds blowing Icy trail the lake frozen. Peaceful breath I run.
A time of sadness Holiday celebrations. Hope for peace and joy
If I run through the snow a steep mountain climb in icy wilderness seeking solitude peace
This is unrelated to winter but came to mind.
